Bt toksini so [http://wiki.fkkt.uni-lj.si/index.php/Aminokisline_in_proteini proteinski] strupi ki jih izloča Bacillus thuringiensis in deluje kot pesticid, natančneje insekticid. Proteini spadajo v dve skupini, kristalne proteine (Cry proteine) in citolitične proteine (Cyt proteine). Delujejo v črevesju tarčnih organizmov, večinoma zajedalcev iz razreda žuželk. V bazičnem okolju se aktivirajo in delujejo na dva načina; kristalni proteini povzročajo pore v celični steni in posledično celično smrt, citolitični pa z osmotskim šokom tako povzročijo pokanje celic.&lt;br /&gt;

Cry toksini so sestavljeni iz ene α-vijačnice ter dveh β-struktur. Za nastanek membranskih por je odgovorna α-vijačnica, ki je sestavljena iz 7 manjših vijačnic, od katerih je le sredinska hidrofobna. Ena izmed β-struktur je odgovorna za vezavo na receptorje na membrani, med tem ko namen ene še ni čisto znan, verjetno pa je namenjen stabilizaciji proteina ter obrambi pred encimi.  &lt;br /&gt;

Vstavitev gena za Cry toksine  v DNA žitaric je ena od glavnih genetskih modifikacij, saj so leta 2003 s tem genom modificirane žitarice bile posajene na več kot 62 milijonih hektarov polj po  svetu. Sporna je toskičnost Cry toksinov za sesalce, saj povzroča spremebe v prebavilih in drugih okoljih prekritih s sluznico, kot so pljuča in spolovila.&lt;br /&gt;
