Pri dvomostovnih (μ2-) ligandih sta dve možni vezni interakciji: 4-elektronska in 2-elektronska. Primera spojin, sestavljenih iz elementov glavnih skupin, sta [Me2Al(μ2-Cl)]2 in [Me2Al(μ2-Me)]2. Tako analizo pa zaplete še možnost vezi kovina-kovina. Računske študije kažejo, da v mnogih spojinah, kjer so kovine ločene z mostovnimi ligandi, ni vezi kovina-kovina. Izračuni na primer kažejo, da [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diiron_nonacarbonyl Fe2(CO)9] nima vezi železo-železo zaradi [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-center_two-electron_bond trojedrne dvoelektronske vezi], ki vključuje enega od treh mostovnih CO ligandov [7].&lt;br /&gt;

==Polifunkcionalni ligandi==&lt;br /&gt;
Polifunkcionalni ligandi se na kovine lahko vežejo na različne načine, kar jim omogoča, da delujejo kot mostovni ligandi bodisi z uporabo enega bodisi večih atomov. Primeri večatomnih ligandov so oksoanioni [https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karbonat CO3(2-)] ter njim podobni [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carboxylate karboksilati], [https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fosfat PO4(3-)] in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyoxometalate polioksometalati].
